Could your backside pains be haemorrhoids?
Haemorrhoids (both internal and external) often begin with an itchy feeling around the anus. Internal haemorrhoids occur above the pectinate or dentate line inside the anal canal. Medical experts assess the severity of the internal haemorrhoids to then be able to select a treatment plan (depending on their grade, one being least severe and four the most severe). By the time you might be able to see the external haemorrhoids (perianal haematoma) with the naked eye, your internal canal might already be heavily populated by piles.Signs to watch out for include rectal bleeding which can occur during stool movement or in severe cases during normal daily activity (including prolonged hours of sitting or standing). Constipation and diarrhoea can also lead to the bleeding of the piles. Obesity, pregnancy and childbirth can also lead to the severe bleeding of the haemorrhoids.
Until you can get medical assistance (or a check-up if you suspect you have haemorrhoids), wipe yourself with clean wet toilet paper – wetting paper makes it softer and less harsh for the irritated area.
Treatments which you can undergo:
- Rubber Band Ligation: this is where rubber bands are tied around the haemorrhoid to cut off its
circulation resulting in it falling off.
- Sclerotherapy: this process involves a chemical solution to be injected around the blood vessel to
shrink the haemorrhoid.
- Laser Treatment: using infrared light circulation can be stopped within the haemorrhoid.
- Haemorrhoidectomy: this is a last resort treatment whereby local anaesthetic is necessary combined
with sedation to perform surgery. This therefore requires an overnight hospital stay.
Don’t worry, there is also a less aggressive way to treat yourself using a homeopathic formula!
